Do you feel orphaned?

Anonymous, Age 71

Great site…..
I always wonder if others feel like orphans when our parents pass no matter what our age?

I hate holidays. It does not matter how many groups I am involved in, I am always alone on Holidays. My only daughter lives far away and prefers to spend precious holiday time with her family and friends
And my few friends are very fortunate to be invited by their children or other relatives.
I wish to start a group of lonely grandmothers

I miss my mom every single day of my life.

But what bothers me most is that I took family for granted. I just assumed that they would always be there. Now I’d give anything to relive one of those holiday gatherings filled with grandparents, aunts, uncles….

But there’s no way to prepare my own children for the loss they’ll face without sounding like I’m asking for special attention.

I feel like an orphan sometimes – mostly at holidays. No surviving family – parents, aunts & uncles have all passed. No siblings, few cousins – not local and not in touch. No children. I just adopted a puppy but I miss my family.
