Keep on keeping on

Barb, Almost 70

WOW! I guess thinking back I never thought I would get this old. My friend and I will both be turning 70 and we both feel kind of down. We find things getting harder to do but we keep on keeping on. It gets harder to move as my knee’s are bad and her back is bad.

I try to think of good things and say to myself you are 70 yes but you can still do some of the things you like such as planting flowers only they must be done slower. I don’t feel as steady on my feet as I did but walk very careful. Frankly I think it sucks, but what can you do but make the best of it.

I just hope I will still have some good years to do things with my kids and my Grandson. I worry about dieing. I am of faith but it still is on my mind. I don’t like to think of leaving my family some day, and seem to think of it more as I get closer to 70. Well, there is nothing we can do but accept it and move on.

I turned 70 last August and have never been happier or feeling younger. How did that happen? I decided it’s a major turning point, therefore, made many changes in my daily life to create that change. Started with personal trainer at the gym, who focused on my age related issues. I am now more limber and all my aches and pains are gone. Don’t feel as old as I did a few years ago when I was blaming it all on age.(definitely not.) Extricated myself from relationships that just were not fulfilling and as a result made room for new friends. I used to teach and decided now I will take classes. I used to be a leader of a social group and decided now I will just be a member. Took down art work and decorations that has been dormant in my house for years, brought them to a consignment shop and bought something new. Feel as though I moved to another place. Household things I haven’t used for years have gone to good will. Took some life-long learning classes and discovered a passion for water color painting. Never painted in my life and now taking classes and loving it. It’s never too late to discover a hidden talent and enjoy it. I don’t think of dying as much as how I to add quality and excitement to my next 20 years.
